Todd Michael Johnson, 58, passed away peacefully surrounded by his immediate family on September 26, 2026 at 12:30 PM. A week prior, Todd was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of thyroid cancer that is untreatable; the doctors called it a one in a million diagnosis reflecting the remarkable one in a million guy that he was.

Todd was born on November 8, 1967 in Clay Center, KS, but spent most of his childhood in Tonganoxie, KS where he grew up as a driven student and an involved member of many high school sports teams. He graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1986, then earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University where he enjoyed all the offerings of college life, including putting his independent nature to practice and meeting and dating his long-distance girlfriend and future wife, Jannica. After college, Todd moved to Kansas City and pursued a master’s degree at Kansas University while working his first civil engineering job.

He married his beloved Jannica on October 8, 1994 and soon discovered his passion for exploring the great outdoors, leading them to move out west, first to Utah and then Eagle, ID where he and Jannica have spent the last 25 years raising their three children. Being a father to Maddy, Elly, and Caden was the priority and joy of Todd’s life. Many of his traits and loves will carry on in them including his practicality, sense of humor, work ethic, altruism, and passion for nature and adventure.

In Idaho, he excelled in his career as a civil engineer, spending the last 19 years as a project manager at Parametrix. His coworkers admired his work ethic and his selfless leadership along with his well-timed sense of humor that could instantly bring a team together. Although he excelled in his career, he deliberately positioned himself for early retirement, leaving the workplace in July 2026, excited to pursue more family and personal time. Despite what seems like unexplainable timing with his passing, Todd had total peace and resolve in his final week, trusting that God had better plans for him; plans we cannot see. In true TJ fashion, he voiced resistance to any pity and asked that we help one another keep on living fully as a way to honor him.

Outside of his successful career, Todd had a plethora of hobbies and passions including hiking, biking, fishing, traveling, skiing, and his most impressive and admired skill wildlife photography. Beyond exploring the great outdoors, Todd also found joy in being a lifelong fan of Kansas State football and the Kansas City Chiefs. He celebrated three Chiefs’ Super Bowl wins in five years after many tough seasons. Although his hobbies were extensive, he was often described as a simple, practical, and humble man, someone easy to please and down-to-earth. He was comfortable with a life of small luxuries found in the beauty of the people and places he was surrounded by. His faith in God was the cornerstone and driving factor behind every life decision, as displayed through the selfless love he showed his friends and family. Todd cited this faith in God as the reason for the overwhelming peace and beauty he experienced during his last days.

Todd is preceded in death by his father Delvin. In addition to Jannica, Madelynn, Ellyana, and Caden, he is survived by his mother, Karel Johnson of Tonganoxie, KS; his sister, Brenda Myers (Matt), Ankeny, IA; his parents-in-law, Sam and Judy Beam, Boise, ID; brother-in-law, Jade (Erin), Chugiak, AK; four nieces and nephews and one great nephew.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the 36th Street Event Center, 3823 N. Garden Center Way, Boise.
